We’re talking about how you contribute to the company’s profit, how the company works, how you rank in the market and how the best people in the industry do the same job that you are doing. Understanding the bigger picture allows you to add more value than others who are simply following orders.

Hard work could only get you so far. Smart work is what gives you the edge. How can you do what you’re doing better? Ask questions, read memorandums, take courses offered by the company or on your own, keep promises and deliver, deliver, deliver. Remember, this is not for your company, this is for you.

Profit generators either market, sell, develop new ideas and products, or excel at profit management. In technical and operational areas, your ability to move up, depends on your ability to simplify and present your technical ideas to the decision makers. Become a profit generator no matter what field you are in.

You need rest, play and exercise. All the knowledge and experience in the world won’t help you move up if you are burnt out, stressed and unhealthy. Do not spend your whole life thinking about money and neglecting your health.
