19 year old Umi Marcano, Synergy TV's current Soca Star is living his dream of being a soca artist.

Marcano , who has often been compared to R&B livewire Usher because of his gravity defying dance moves, is the singer of the runaway Carnival 2007 hit Move That Body, the video for which is now out.

The former drummer for the now defunct gospel band Revelation, Umi’s journey to a singing career began long before he mounted the stage as a Synergy Soca Star contestant.

Trailblazer caught up with Umi to find out just what makes him tick.

Who is Umi Marcano?
An outgoing humble young man who just loves to entertain.

At what age did you start singing?
I was four years old and it was at church. The church was called the People's United Fellowship.

Tell us about the benefits of your new career .
Well it is me living my dream. It also allows me to meet new people and experience new things. Like anything else it has its ups and downs. Not everyone would like you.

What was the first thing you bought after earning your first paycheck?
I bought a new cell phone. A Motorola L7.

How would you describe your spending habits? Are you Mr. Save a lot or Mr. Spendthrift?
Spendthrift (laughing). I spend on clothes, jewellery, my car (the Daihatsu Terios he won as part of his prize for becoming Synergy Soca Star) and on my music career. Making music is really expensive because you have to pay for most things -- making the track, making the video etc but you have to be prepared to sacrifice.

I am working on being Mr. Save a lot though.

What financial lessons have you learned along the way?
Always put down ten percent of what you earn for a rainy day. My daddy told me that

To travel the world and become one of the biggest superstars around.
